It has been a confusing few days for me...
I have been trying to get this girl to ... like me, I guess...
And the signals that I have received so far from her side have been 'confusing' to say the least...
I wonder whether it is any use now to continue doing this - trying to impress her...
It means money is of paramount importance now a days ... to everybody really...
How can one try and make somebody understand that money isn't everything and that there is more to life than just an endless quest to make more and more money...
People want money and all the luxuries that money can buy...
But, I think at the end of the day, it is who we are that matters...
Two persons need to be 'compatible' with each other...
I mean, if one person's idea of spending free time is, say, reading books and the other person's idea is to watch some typical song-and-dance Hindi movie, then I think there might be a mismatch of wavelengths between these two individuals.
On the other hand, if two persons like to pursue the same hobbies, say watching TV, but only may be wildlife programming or Discovery or NatGeo...then, there would not be so much scope for conflict between these two individuals...
On the other hand, I find that a lot of girls now a days are into 'travelling' a lot ... I mean, it is okay to have the spirit of an explorer, but if somebody thinks that going to Shimla and Kerala and Goa and may be even the Swiss Alps and Colorado and the Grand Canyon and the Niagara Falls is a 'must do' without which life will lose all meaning, I think I would have to disagree with that point of view.
I think it has some meaning to sit and watch on Discovery channel a program on, say, the Final Flight of Concorde or say a program about this lady in the United States who runs a home for abandoned animals (primarily Big Cats) there, or this incredible bunch of Buddhhist monks in Thailand who have somehow gotten into taking care of a bunch of tigers !!!
It is quite something to see these grey-robed monks taking their tigers for a walk, etc. It is always so fascinating to see humans interacting in a friendly manner with these wild Big Cats...because I think these are such ferocious creatures and predators and that idea is so deeply entrenched in our brains...
I saw this wonderful program on NatGeo about the Apollo 13 program.
Of course, one has seen the movie starring Tom Hanks which quite dramatically portrays the story of the voyage of Apollo 13.
It was great to listen to real Houston Mission Control audio and see the 'real' Gene Kranz and the 'real' Fred Haise, etc.
The National Geographic Specials videos are of course really 'special'.
I remember seeing a Special on the United States Secret Service and one on the White House and another on Air Force One.
The amount of access that a reputed channel like Discovery or NatGeo enjoys is of course quite enviable.
I was quite astonished with the amount of details one got to see in the NatGeo program about the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program - basically, the story was about how Lockheed Martin and Boeing competed for this biggest ever fighter aircraft contract by the Pentagon and how Lockheed won it eventually beating Boeing.
Quite instructive !!!...

i too saw the monk taking the tiger for a walk in the market place. the ferocious one led by the placid one with people gaping all around. it was awesome.
Read dawkins 'the selfish gene' to understand what men and women need and why. it clarifies a lot.
